Amanda Hanson – Your Chronic Pain Coach
I’m Amanda Hanson — a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBHWC), Certified PRT Coach, Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, and long-time movement specialist with more than twenty years of NASM and STOTT Pilates experience.
For decades, I helped people through strength, biomechanics, and intelligent movement. My clients showed up. I showed up. Everyone worked hard — and still, pain returned. It was clear: people weren’t failing. The model was.
Then my own body made the truth impossible to ignore.
In my late 30s, I developed multiple chronic pain syndromes. I cycled through specialists, physical therapists, and well-meaning doctors. I tried rest, medication, reassurance, and grit. Nothing changed. And I refused to accept that “there’s nothing more we can do” was the end of my story.
So I turned to the science. Learn more about Pain Reprocessing Therapy.
Pain Reprocessing Therapy is supported by evidence from a 2021 randomized controlled trial, which demonstrated meaningful improvements for people with chronic back pain.
I learned that chronic pain is often driven not by damage, but by a hyperprotective nervous system — a brain stuck in danger mode. And for the brain to change, you need more than insight or good intentions. You need new skills, new patterns, and repeated experiences of safety.
Using these methods, I fully recovered.
Not managed. Not coped with. Recovered.
And that recovery wasn’t luck. It happened because I learned exactly how the brain creates and amplifies pain — and how to retrain it. I practiced new skills until my nervous system stopped interpreting ordinary sensations as threats. I shifted the patterns, behaviors, and fears that had kept my pain loop alive for years.
Recovery made one thing unmistakably clear: chronic pain changes when the brain changes.
Once I experienced that firsthand, I went straight into the research, trained with leaders in the field, became a Certified PRT Chronic Pain Coach, and built a neuroscience-informed process that helps people turn down pain signals at their source.
My recovery became the blueprint for my purpose — helping others reclaim their lives the same way. Explore the full Chronic Pain Reset Method.
My work is grounded in neuroscience and reflects insights from research conducted at the Stanford Pain Lab.
I found my freedom — and now, with the right tools, knowledge, and support — you can find yours too. Schedule a call to talk about your pain patterns and recovery goals.
Why Coaching Is So Effective for Chronic Pain Recovery
People often ask why coaching is so effective for chronic pain — and how working with a chronic pain coach differs from therapy.
Chronic pain recovery requires more than insight or emotional processing. It requires changing how the brain interprets sensations, how the nervous system responds to fear, and how daily behaviors reinforce safety or danger.
This is where chronic pain coaching excels. Learn about individual and group coaching for chronic pain. For an discussion about how chronic pain coaching could help you, book a consultation.
Coaching is experiential, skills-based, and forward-moving.
As your chronic pain coach, I don’t just teach you the science of pain; we practice the skills that retrain the pain system:
- somatic tracking
- reducing fear of symptoms
- shifting habitual responses
- nervous system safety practices
- rewiring well-worn pain pathways through repetition
- changing how your brain interprets and predicts sensation
These are not abstract concepts — they are lived experiences built session by session.
Coaching focuses on behavior change, not diagnosis or treatment.
Therapists provide clinical care, diagnose conditions, and work deeply with emotional history.
As your chronic pain coach, by contrast, I focus on:
- patterns that keep the nervous system in protective mode
- shifting daily behaviors that reinforce pain
- building new brain responses
- developing self-trust and agency
- applying structured tools between sessions
This makes coaching ideal for chronic pain, where the brain learns through repetition, safety, and new neural experiences.
Coaching works because change happens between sessions.
Pain pathways shift not from insight alone, but through:
- consistent practice
- new interpretations of sensation
- reducing conditioned fear
- learning to respond differently in the moment
Coaching for chronic pain gives you a step-by-step method, accountability, and ongoing support — the elements that help the nervous system truly change.

It’s not therapy or medical treatment — it’s nervous system re-education.
You don’t need to relive the past to change the brain’s pain predictions.
You need clear explanations, structured tools, emotional safety, and consistent practice.
That’s exactly what coaching provides.
